By José Antonio Pérez

Representatives from the U.S. General Consulate in Nogales, including General Consul Virginia Staab, recently visited Puerto Peñasco to meet with Peñasco mayor Kiko Munro, and had the opportunity to hold a Town Hall with several of Puerto Peñasco’s U.S. residents.

Mayor Kiko Munro remarked a Virtual U.S. Consulate is set to open at City Hall in September with the goal of providing attention to concerns of U.S. citizens residing in Puerto Peñasco, as well as for those visiting the area for work or pleasure.

The virtual consulate is an important step, as Peñasco receives 2.5 million visitors yearly, most of them from the U.S., and there are at least 2 thousand U.S. citizens residing  in the city.

Consul officials along with Mayor Munro emphasized the goal of the virtual consulate is solely to provide attention for U.S. citizens, and will not be for passport or visa purposes.
