Positive response to “Borrón y Cuenta Nueva” at Water Department

Throughout the month of October, the “Clean Slate” (Borrón y Cuenta Nueva) program is in effect at the local Water Department (OOMAPAS).

The program, which was part of the campaign platform of Mayor Kiko Munro, aims to assist residents with outstanding water bills by forgiving debt while taking steps to ensure timely payments in the future.

OOMAPAS Director Hesdín Soto Lizárraga explains during the first week alone, her department had signed more than 900 agreements with people responding to the program.

Residents from across the community are encouraged to visit the OOMAPAS offices (in Colonia Las Brisas behind the General Hospital) to take part in the program, which will end Oct. 31st. The office is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as Saturday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.   In additon, a module has been set up for OOMAPAS payments at the City Collections Office in town (8 a.m. – 3 p.m.).

Program steps:

  1. The “Borrón y Cuenta Nueva” program applies solely to residential bills.
  2. Account holder must take a copy of an official ID to the OOMAPAS offices (or at the module set up at the Collections Office)
  3. Sign a contract with OOMAPAS to guarantee compliance with the “Borrón y Cuenta Nueva” program
