Positive outlook for Spring Break 2015

Spring Break 2015, which kicks off in Puerto Peñasco this Friday March 6th and goes through March 22nd, is being met with positive expectations.

The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) foresees full occupancy for beachfront hotels and condos during the second weekend of Spring Break (March 13th – 15th). In addition, expectations for both this weekend and the final Spring Break weekend (March 20th – 21st) is for 60% to 80% occupancy rates.

Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, OCV President, indicates there may be an increase in visitors during this season as compared to last. This, he explains, is due in great part to promotion of Puerto Peñasco’s beaches carried out in states such as Arizona and California. Another determining factor in the growth of U.S. tourism is that Puerto Peñasco continues to maintain a peaceful environment.

He furthered that road work along Calle Benito Juárez toward the Malecón should not affect tourism given there is sufficient signage. He noted that far from being a negative point (the repaving of streets), the impression that tourists are getting is one of development and working to better the port.

For this Spring Break some hotels and condo complexes have prepared activities including beach side concerts (tributes and DJs), nightly parties, games on the beach, etc.

An important point is that in addition to thousands of university students (from ASU, U of A, NAU, among others), a significant number of entire families traveling with kids are also expected for Spring Break.

Finally, he indicated, the first two months of 2015 registered 50% more tourism from the U.S. and Canada than in 2014. This sends out a positive message for tourism expectations this year in Puerto Peñasco!
