2016 Marina Fest May 27 – June 5!

The program for this year’s Marina Fest was recently announced, with activities to last from May 27th – June 5th.

The traditional event, which is part of Puerto Peñasco’s history and in 1996 was picked up by the Professional Business Women’s Association to help with scholarship fundraising goals, has been joined this year by the local DIF to help strengthen the fest for residents and visitors alike.  Once again, funds from the event will go to scholarships.

The fest of course coincides with Día de la Marina, which is June 1st and includes additional civic ceremonies on the malecón.

This year’s fest will be located on athletic fields next to the track known as “La Milla,” entrance off Calle Adolfo Lopez Mateo, and is to include carnival rides by Atracciones Tijuana, parades (for the queen candidates in particular), a cultural corridor, dances, singing contest, and street theater all in a general fair atmosphere.

Gates will open daily around 6 p.m., with the first day’s inaugural event taking place around 8 p.m. on the 27th. Entrance is 30 pesos for adults* (about $1.50 US) and children 12 and under are FREE.  *On May 28th, adult entry will be 120 pesos (for the concert by Banda Tres Rios) and 70 pesos on June 1st (for a concert by Sonora Dinamita).

Schedule:

May 27  – Inauguration – band maratón

May 30 – Canta Peñasco (beginning of Singing Contest)

May 31 – Crowning of Marina Fest Queen

Additional activities planned as part of the fest, though taking place in other parts of town include  Horseracing – June 5th, as well as a traditional pelea de gallos “palenque”  June 3rd – 5th.

Eleven young girls are competing to be named Marina Fest Queen, which will take place on Tuesday evening, May 31st.  The Queen, explains Haide, is selected at random by chance.  Secretly, we hope the candidate sponsored by RockyPoint360.com is crowned Queen!

See you at the 2016 Marina Fest!
