Peace and Meditation ~ Weekend Rundown 11/15 – 11/18

mystical-arts-tibet-620x496 Peace and Meditation ~ Weekend Rundown 11/15 - 11/18A tapestry of music, images, and sound envelop Rocky Point this weekend. Beginning today, Thurs. Nov. 15th, the Mystical Arts of Tibet four day program began at Peñasco del Sol Hotel with the inauguration and beginning of the sacred mandala construction. For those of us who did not get in on the conference “carnet” for the entire event, there is the opportunity to visit the photo exhibit and Tibetan store set up in the entrance to the Conference Center part of the Hotel. In addition, on Saturday night, the esplanade of the Peñasco del Sol Hotel will be the scene for the acclaimed Sacred Music Sacred Dance presentation of the Tibetan monks.

danzas-sagradas-tibetanos-402x620 Peace and Meditation ~ Weekend Rundown 11/15 - 11/18According to the Mystical Arts of Tibet website, the traditional Sacred Music Sacred Dance is comprised of eleven sections with spectacular costumes, voice, masks, instruments, and chanting. More information: Sacred Music Sacred Dance   The Saturday performance is at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at Hotel Peñasco del Sol ($35 US).

Tonight (11/15) also shines with the Lunarte exhibition of photographer / documentarian / aspiring filmmaker Jimmy Maldonado. The evening is to include showings of two of his documentaries: “Inside or Out” which was the winner of the State CINEFILIA film contest earlier this year in Cd. Obregon, and “Buena Vibra Social Sound” which follows this young Sonoran band in their search for opportunities in Mexico City. Congratulations Jimmy on your accomplishments!

Continuing with the music vein this weekend, Jesse Gerardo of La Cava will be holding a CD release party at La Cava on Friday, Nov. 16th. La Cava is a music bar located above The Lighthouse on Whale Hill, and is celebrating its first anniversary throughout the month of November.

Looking for more music? Check out Agua de Coco now at Don Julio’s on Fridays and Saturdays, plus Mondays and Thursdays with jazz at Mare Blu. Riband at The Lighthouse. Richard Scott and his sax at Max’s now every Friday. RoJo at Elixir, and more!

desfile-de-la-revolucion-2011-05-620x413 Peace and Meditation ~ Weekend Rundown 11/15 - 11/18Monday, Nov. 19th brings with it a parade – a revolutionary parade! In honor of Mexico’s Revolution Day (Nov. 20th), the parade begins on Monday at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall and will work its way down Blvd. Benito Juarez before wrapping up at Plaza la Madre next to the León Garcia baseball stadium.

As we look forward to next weekend, turkeys abound! Latest reports we have received from the border crossing in Sonoyta is one (smoked) turkey per car. Plus, keep in mind the wide variety of stores in town now offer frozen turkeys and tons of trimmings (from Sam’s to Ley, and more). Plus, Thanksgiving dinners may be found at most of your favorite dining spots around town. Enjoy the day with your family and friends, turkeys and all.
