Plaza Gobernadores in Puerto Peñasco’s Old Port was dressed to the nines on April 21st to commemorate the 109th Anniversary of the Heroic Defense of Veracruz in 1914 against U.S. forces.
Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaña joined Puerto Peñasco mayor Jorge Pivac Carrillo and 6th Naval Zone Commander Epigmenio Javier Rodriguez Balbuena for ceremonies at Plaza de Gobernadores, where members of the navy reiterated their oath to serve the nation by sea, land, and air. A highlight of the morning activities was the spirited April 21st poetry reading by Ventura G. Tena elementary student.
Following ceremonies on the esplanade, Governor Durazo, along with city and navy officials, inaugurated the “EXPOMAR 2023” exhibition housed at the Municipal Art Gallery. The exhibit, which is on display from April 21st – 30th, features 12 modules showcasing the functions and tasks of Mexico’s Navy through interactive activities for the whole family.
