The instants when I am lost between the moment and the capture

are the moments that I think of you   ~ D. Lopez

So begins the latest entry to Puerto Peñasco photographer Daniel Lopez’s blog. The site, filled with powerful images of the Sea of Cortez, shrimp boats, sunsets, portraits, and the desert surrounding this corner in Northwestern Mexico, speaks for itself though makes no particular mention of one of Daniel’s latest amazing accomplishments….a photo exhibition in Chicago “Paraisos Escondidos” scheduled for Feb. 29th!

d-lopez2-620x413 Local photographer heads to "windy city" for Feb. expoParaisos Escondidos (Hidden Paradise) is a binational effort of Alex Rueda Marketing, Dan López Fotografía, and VIVELO! Tours & Activities Center with the objective of presenting these hidden paradises, such as our own nook of the ocean here in Puerto Peñasco, to a larger American audience as well as for Mexicans living abroad. Alex Rueda, President and owner of Alex Rueda Marketing, explains this is “a great chance for Mexicans of new generations and people of all cultures to discover and rediscover cultures so close to home, a border away.”

Having left Puerto Peñasco just this past week, Daniel is already in Chicago to assist with promotion and publicity for the event. He tells us the opportunity to be in the “windy city” is absolutely amazing, though he’s already had to buy boots as his toes were not quite prepared for the Chicago cold and snow. He goes on, “…it’s a whole other world, particularly in seeing the beauty of winter…I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far. There are many contrasts, many cultures…it is a magical place.”

The schedule for Daniel’s photo exhibition in the heart of Southside Chicago in Little Village is as follows (…all my Chicago area amigos take note!):

Paraisos Escondidos: Sonora en Chicago / Hidden Paradise: Sonora in Chicago
Feb. 29th  opening at 6 p.m. at M Hair Design  2408 S. Millard Ave., Chicago
Photos will remain on display for up to two months at La Catedral Café y Restaurant, 2500 S Christiana Ave. (between 25th & 26th St.)

The entire program will include a dinner with regional tastes from Sonora by La Catedral Café Restaurant, presentation of Sonoran products to the Latino community in Chicago (including raffle of Sonoran artistry), and Mexican Instrumental music by Hermanos Salcedo.

The principal goal of this endeavor is to promote binational efforts between Puerto Peñasco – Chicago, the promotion and rescue of cultural values, reciprocal promotion of tourism between Puerto Peñasco – Chicago, promotion of civic and cultural values in Mexico and the US, channeling professional talents in Mexico and the US, and connecting youth with their roots.

In a recent phone conversation, Daniel shared that Eduardo Vallejo (from JoinUs) and Nina Mier (from Cultura y Arte Peñasco) have been important in getting word out about the event and are still seeking sponsors. (Plus, anyone interested in helping to sponsor Daniel’s photo expo of Puerto Peñasco in Chicago please be sure to contact us info@rockypoint360.com and we will coordinate with Eduardo at JoinUs. Sponsor businesses may have their logo on printed material in Chicago, plus Daniel tells us you can send him your own brochures/pamphlets for an information table that will be set up during the expo and for the entire time the photos are on display at La Catedral Café. Contact us for more information.)

We look forward to any upcoming expos Daniel may have once he’s back in Puerto Peñasco, where he can sink his toes into our warm sands once again. Stay calientito on your Chicago adventure!!  Felicidades Daniel!!!
