Hermosillo, Sonora. September 27, 2016. Together with Mario Welfo Álvarez Beltrán, General Director of the Sonoran Cultural Institute (ISC), Mayor Kiko Munro presented press with program details for the 44th International Cervantino Festival, to take place October 13th – 16th, with Puerto Peñasco serving as a subsite for the festival, motto for which this year is “Cervantes 400. From madness to idealism.”
Headline performers “A Moving Sound” from Taiwan will open festivities on Thursday, October 13th. The following three days will be filled with boleros and songs by Rito Emilio Salazar and Jorge Martín Aguilar Tirado, as well as Astrid Hadad with the Mysterious Earth show, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sonora, as well as presentations by more than 1000 invited artists.
ISC Director, Mario Welfo Alvarez, stated, through the Secretary of Culture, Puerto Peñasco has joined a project to transmit the multiple events of the International Cervantino Festival in the city of Hermosillo.
“We must stress the economic importance this festival represents, particularly for Puerto Peñasco,” added Welfo Álvarez, “as it is one of the cutting edge tourism spots in northwestern Mexico.”
The state official emphasized among the cities in Sonora invited to participate with the host site of Puerto Peñasco are Caborca, Hermosillo, and San Luis Rio Colorado.
