“Internal Camera” @ Schuk Toak Visitors Center

Photos of nature captured by ITAMA interns at the Schuk Toak Visitors Center of the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve went on display November 23rd and will remain through January 2017.

Images displayed were taken by young women from the Teen Treatment and Implementation Institute (ITAMA) of Hermosillo, Sonora, and are part of an “Internal Camera” project promoted by photographer Esperanza Barrón with support from the FECAS Stimulus Program for Creation and Artistic Development.

At the exhibit’s inauguration, Barrón spoke to students from the Instituto Americano de Caborca, as well as from the local Jaime Nuño elementary school, about the work done by ITAMA youth.  She also led a photography course for staff at the Reserve.

The Schuk Toak Visitor’s Center, located at KM 72 just north of Puerto Peñasco, is part of the Pinacate and Grand Desert of Altar Biosphere Reserve, which in 2013 was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
