Instrument donations – Music to our ears!

Do you have a musical instrument just yearning to be played?

The Academia de Música de Puerto Peñasco, together with the local Rotary Club (CR Mar de Peñasco, A.C.), several local businesses, and the Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) encourage residents and visitors to consider donating musical instruments to Academia students so they may continue to develop their talents.

Given the real needs of dozens of students in furthering their studies in learning how to play an instrument, along with the goal of creating a symphony orchestra at the Academia, an ongoing campaign has been launched to collect donated musical instruments and supplies for the Academia. Additional ways you can take part are to help sponsor a student music scholarship, or contribute to instructor salary expenses.

In the past nine years, the Academia de Música de Puerto Peñasco has been able to instruct hundreds of children, ranging in ages from “8 to 99”. Several of the young musicians have gone on to study music professionally, while the school itself has provided possibilities for scores of youth in Puerto Peñasco who wish to follow music as an artistic form of expression and learning.

These are just some of the reasons efforts persist to support the school, which has managed to position itself well within the local community.

Moved by this goal, Lucy Bustamante, local businesswoman, owner of Lucy Spa and member of both the Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) and Rotary Club, together with fellow businesswomen, the CR Mar de Peñasco Rotary Club, and CANACO invite the community – and visitors – to support the Academia de Música de Puerto Peñasco in whichever way they are able: donation of musical instruments (new or in good used condition), donation of instrument supplies (bows, strings, wax, reeds, etc.), music scholarships (monthly cost of 250 pesos), and even donating time to the Academia by instructing a class or workshop.

Lilian Castillo of the Academia de Música Board details additional needs include a photocopier, paper, a projector, and land so that one day the Academia can build their own facility.  She noted, “The local Architectural Association (Colegio de Arquitectos) has already provided the Academia with detailed plans for a building.”

Local companies helping to spread the word about the campaign, spurred on by Lucy Bustamante’s passion to help the Academia, include Lucy Spa, RockyPoint360.com, Campu-Lab, Mini DB Market, Grupo Castillo Gasolinera, and Bella Sirena.

Instrument donations can be taken to the Chamber of Commerce offices (CANACO), Calle Coahuila on east side of Shrimp Plaza, as well as to the offices of RockyPoint360 located in Plaza Pelicanos (next to CANACO).   For more information, please contact Sami at info@rockypoint360.com   MX cell: 638 380 8849  or stop by the CANACO offices.
