Music Lessons Abound

How about play piano, bass or guitar? Really, it’s never too late. As I found out, in Rocky Point there are options to learn at any age. I sing, but have never had lessons. Always by ear. Wouldn’t it be fun to get better with the help of someone who knows how to do it right? Was there someone in Rocky Point who knew?
“Ha-huh-ha-huh-ha-huh.” Hand over his belly button, Pino rapidly breaths in and out. “Be sure you feel it here” he says, referring to a place considerably lower than the belly button. “That way, what comes out will be strong. Just like anything in life.” This is my first voice lesson.
From a young age Rafael “Pino” Noriega has played professionally, his talent taking him all the way to the Mexico City music scene. In Rocky Point most people recognize him for his Jazz and Latin piano improvisations. As my luck would have it, he also shares his skills through teaching. I have a private lesson at my house every week, and Pino says most adults prefer it this way.
“During the day the studio has group classes that have more young players. Most of them want the guitar. That’s good for him.” Says Pino, nodding to his partner Ricardo Rivera. 
Currently providing fiery solos with his group Vintage, Ricardo has played guitar, sung, and written original music for ten years.
“For guitar, piano and bass, we start with the basics. As they progress or if we get adults who can play some already, we move on into styles – Blues, Balads, Jazz and Rock.”
Breathing and hitting the right notes are top priority. It’s a leisurely hour over coffee, and when it’s over, homework! After two weeks, the difference in my singing tells me I really am getting something out of this…and you can too!

¿Siempre has querido cantar?

…o posiblemente tocar el piano, el bajo o la guitarra? De veras, nunca es tarde. Me enteré que en Puerto Peñasco existen opciones para aprender a cualquier edad.
Yo canto pero nunca había tomado lecciones, siempre aprendía de oído. ¿No crees que sería divertido tener la ayuda de alguien que sabe cómo hacer las cosas bien?
“Ha-huh-ha-huh-ha-huh” con una mano arriba de su ombligo, Pino respira rápidamente hacia adentro y afuera. “Asegúrate de sentirlo aquí” dice, apuntando más abajo que su ombligo. “Así lo que sale será fuerte, lo mejor de la vida” esta fue mi primera lección de piano.
Rafael “Pino” Noriega ha tocado profesionalmente desde muy joven y su talento lo llevó hasta grandes escenarios musicales en la ciudad de México. En Puerto Peńasco es reconocido por su Jazz e improvisaciones de piano latino y, para mi suerte comparte sus habilidades a través de la enseñanza.
La mayoría de los adultos prefieren tener clases privados en sus casas, como yo. “Durante el día nuestro estudio cuenta con clases grupales que consisten en su mayoría por jóvenes. La mayoría de ellos quieren aprender a tocar guitarra, y en eso el bueno es Ricardo Rivera.”
Ricardo actualmente toca con su grupo “Vintage” y ha cantado, tocado guitarra y compuesto música original durante más de diez años.
“Para guitarra, piano y bajo iniciamos con lo mas básico, a medida de que progresen los estudiantes y si tenemos adultos que ya saben tocar, los pasamos a estilos Blues, Baladas, Jazz y Rock,” dice Ricardo.
La respiración y el hecho de tocar notas correctamente es una prioridad. Para mí las clases son horas placenteras entre el café y unas cuantas notas musicales, y después ¡la tarea! Después de dos semanas, he notado una diferencia en mi forma de cantar gracias a estas clases… y tu también lo puedes haceer.
