Grab a fork! 6th Taste of Peñasco coming Feb. 16th!

The Taste of Peñasco is back, and now in 2013 it’s introducing its initials as T.O.P. Chef. Iron Chef, Chefs de Acero, T.O.P. Chef, call it what you like – this is a delectable treat for the entire community. Now in its 6th edition, this year’s Taste will take place on Feb. 16th at Plaza del Camarón from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The T.O.P. Chef competition is set to get underway around 11 a.m. and once again we anticipate a worthy batch of opponents. Last year, Chef Mickey Medina of his own restaurant Chef (Plaza del Sol, Blvd. Fremont) took home the title of Puerto Peñasco’s 2012 Iron Chef against the worthy competition of Ramón Ramos (La Cocina de Ramón, Iron Chef 2010), Julio Cauich (Mayan Palace), José Quiroz (Capone’s), Juan Caballero Guzmán (Mare Blu Ristorante) and Marco Martinez (Coyote Grill).

As in years past, though the day highlights tasty treats and talented chefs from across town, it is principally a fundraising event for local charities. This year, funds raised from the Taste of Peñasco will go toward the Santa Claus Club, the Fire Department, and the hemodialysis project of the local DIF. Puerto Peñasco’s First Lady, and DIF President, Rafaela Félix de Figueroa explains there are a number of people in Puerto Peñasco (including children) requiring hemodialysis and up to this point have had to go outside the city to seek care. This represents significant costs and time for families, many of whom are of limited means.

A spot at the honored judges’ table will once again be available this year, and raffle tickets are available now at Latitude 31, ProAlliance Insurance (Tourist and Visitors Assistance office), Peñasco Beauty Center (across from Ley), and at the offices of Rocky Point 360 (Plaza Fremont where Bancomer and the immigration offices are).  Additional raffle prizes, donated by artists, area restaurants, and other establishments are also coming in and will be raffled off throughout the day of the event.
