On what was undoubtedly the coldest night of 2014, Puerto Peñasco rang in the New Year with fiestas, dinners, campfires, champagne, tequila, grapes, red underwear, familia, and amigos! We look forward to an event filled 2015 and so, without further ado, let’s jump right in and rundown this first weekend of ‘15 and take a peek at what’s in store! Happy New Year and see you at one event or another in 2015!
Jan. 2nd – Mark Mulligan at Caribbean Parrot. Come in out of the cold and right into this trop-rock haven on Ave. Sinaloa when heading to the Mirador. Things get going at 4 p.m. with Jesse Gerardo, and Mark takes the stage at 5 p.m.
Jan. 3rd – 1st Mermaids Arts Market of 2015! 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Plaza del Camarón. The artists are back at it and can be seen every 1st and 3rd Saturday each month now through April 18th.
Jan. 6th – Kings Day (Epiphany) – If you’re lucky, you’ll get in on sharing a traditional Kings cake with friends, but remember if you get the small plastic doll in your piece you’re the one in charge of the tamale fiesta on Feb. 2nd.
Jan 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th – CineMartes Tuesday night Art Films on the patio of Puerto Viejo Café in the Old Port (Every Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. – FREE! Bring a chair and blanket)
Jan. 9th – 6 p.m. at Banditos – Rising country star Matt Farris and good rally amigo will be back to help get things started early, and the Toy Run spirit flowing!
Jan. 10th – Kings Day Toy Run Fiesta 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Plaza del Camarón Food! Music! Artists! Everyone is invited to bring a toy (no toy weapons please, and unwrapped is ok) to Shrimp Park to help add to those collected at the Bike Parade in November. Many local artists will be there, including the spray paint creations of Victor Alemán, photography of Tony Ballesteros, visual arts by Socorro González, the fabulous jewelry of Judy Ridgway, and more!
Around 1:30 p.m. gifts will be loaded up on bikes – plus in whatever other vehicles people may have – to form a short parade from Plaza del Camarón to El Chamizal event center where the local DIF will be holding their grand Kings Day gift-giving event for kids from across the community! Folks are encouraged to dress up as Kings (yes, we’re talking the Kings from the nativity scene), Santa Claus, or even angels for the Toy Run!
Jan. 10th – 6 p.m. at Dukes. Wrap up the Fiesta Weekend once again to the country strumming of Matt Farris – plus, Duke’s has parking inside for bikes if you’d like!
Jan. 11th – 4th Anniversary 44 KM mountain-biking event of local club Roca JC Starting point 10 a.m. at the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, registration 200 pesos Awards for first 30 men and women to arrive plus t-shirts for the first 100 to cross the finish line. Jan 16th & 17th As each year, the two chili cook-off events will be spicing things up over in the Mirador over MLK weekend. Tasting cups generally available around 11 a.m. with proceeds going to local charities. The annual Santa Claus Club Garage Sale held along with the chili competitions will be on Saturday, Jan. 17th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Jan. 17th – Mermaids Arts Market 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. @ Plaza del Camarón
Jan. 23rd – 25th is all about the music, plus the 3rd Mexican Moonshine Tequila golf classic!
Friday – 8 p.m. @ Banditos first up Tramps & Thieves (Tempe, AZ) followed by RCPM @ 9:30 p.m. for a set of covers
Saturday – Morning golf – Mexican Moonshine Tequila Golf Classic @ The Links of Las Palomas Golf & Beach Resort
Saturday night – 5 p.m. @ JJ’s Cantina Things get started with Jason Boots and then RCPM takes the stage at sunset. Serious Moonlight with PH Naffah and crew will round out the night beginning about 9:30 p.m. Blankets and warm attire encouraged!
Sunday – Hangover Set @ Banditos starting at 1 p.m. with Jim Dalton! Totally worth staying on Sunday for some Jimmy!
