Federal Secretary of Tourism to visit Puerto Peñasco

Puerto Peñasco Mayor Gerardo Figueroa Zazueta recently announced Mexican Secretary of Tourism Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas is to visit Puerto Peñasco on July 9th, accompanied by Sonoran Governor Guillermo Padrés Elías. As the twenty-third ordinary session of City Council wrapped up on June 30th, the Mayor reported Federal Representative Manlio Fabio Beltrones Rivera is also tentatively expected to be part of the visiting committee.

Though the visiting Secretary’s schedule has not yet been defined, plans are expected to include review of progress on the Homeport, which is a project being done by the State through federal funds.

Mayor Figueroa Zazueta remarked they will take advantage of the Secretary’s visit to address topics related to the possibility of restarting commercial flights to Puerto Peñasco, as well as to request support for the filming of a documentary about the Upper Gulf of California and Biosphere Reserve of the Pinacate and Grand Desert of Altar.

“We cannot do it ourselves, which is why we will ask for support so they can carry out this project, with the sole goal of promoting Puerto Peñasco via the Discovery Channel,” he indicated.

Mayor Figueroa Zazueta remarked it is important for the federal government to do these types of promotional campaigns, particularly concerning tourism attractions in Northern Mexico.  “Puerto Peñasco’s benefits are numerous and varied, which is why we would like support with a promotional program,” he added.
