Federal investment in new sports infrastructure

The recent launch of two projects adds to efforts of Puerto Peñasco Mayor Gerardo Figueroa’s administration to promote athletic activities in town. The projects, which include a multifunctional gym and the first phase of the “La Milla” circuit, will include a 45 million peso federal investment (approximately 3.3 million USD). According to the construction timeline, both projects are expected to be concluded within a period of 90 days as of the first of the year.

Multifunctional Gym

The multifunctional gym being built on Calle 50, between Calzada Chapultepec and Juan de la Barrera in the area of Nueva Esperanza, will require an investment of 10 million pesos and will provide a modern functional athletic venue measuring approximately 2000 sq. meters. The space will include regulation size basketball and volleyball courts, areas for other activities including weights, bleachers for teams and spectators, and equipped bathrooms for both men and women. The building will also make use of LED lighting and have its own 150 KVA electric substation.

“La Milla” Athletic Circuit

The “La Milla” (The Mile) athletic complex will stretch north of Alejandro Sobarzo, south of Adolfo López Mateos, east along Mariano Abasolo and west along Rodolfo Campodónico and consist of a running path over an area of 6,830 sq. meters, with a synthetic surface 13 mm thick. It will also possess an enclosed soccer field with bleachers for spectators, playground area, exercise equipment, two basketball courts and a soccer field with synthetic grass. Additional planned features include a 10,000 sq. meter baseball field, bleachers and benches for players and fans, back-stop, and renovation of the present racquetball court. A perimeter fence measuring 1,681 meters will surround the athletic complex.
