Construction on new skate park at 80%

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. June 23, 2016. Construction on the new skate park, promoted by the City of Puerto Peñasco and Levi Strauss & Co., has advanced 80%, meaning work should wrap up in the next three weeks.

Fausto Soto Lizárraga, Director of Urban Development, remarked the park will have all necessary characteristics in order to welcome professional competitions, which will be yet another attraction for the city.

“The Mayor has been an enthusiastic promoter of the project,” he stated, “as it will not only provide a healthy recreation space for the community of Puerto Peñasco, but rather draw in tourism and promote his vision of making Peñasco more attractive.”

He further detailed Levi Strauss & Co. has invested up to $130,000 USD in the project, while the local administration provided the land and helped with labor.

“We have currently advanced 80% on construction,” he added, “we are finishing the ramps necessary for the different levels of skaters.”

He explained they have also built a “volcano” in the center of the park, as an iconic symbol of identity for the skate park in reference to the Pinacate, the natural world heritage site located near Peñasco.
