Cold weather alert in Northern Sonora

As cold front No. 13 makes its way into northwestern Sonora, the State Civil Protection Unit (UEPC) has issued a weather alert for much of the state, and particularly for a number of municipalities in the northern and northwestern part of Sonora, including San Luis Rio Colorado, Plutarco Elías Calles (Sonoyta), Caborca, and Puerto Peñasco, among others.

Temperatures of 5°C (41°F) or less may register in the mountainous areas along the border with Arizona, while from Monday to Wednesday temperatures are expected to drop in municipalities along the border with Chihuahua.

The alert issues caution for all vessels along the Sonoran coasts, with the recommendation for boats less than 15 m to not go out in the north-central part of the Gulf of California due to winds and waves.

The UEPC reminds people to use care in the use of propane gas, as well as portable burners within homes, and a number of recommendations including that of having blankets and warm clothing on hand.
