In promoting early detection in the prevention of breast cancer while increasing survival rates and reducing negative effects of cancer, Municipal DIF President Linda Pivac de Munro led ceremonies at City Hall to commemorate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Accompanied by representatives from the San Peregrino and George Papanicolaou Civil Associations, the Professional Business Women’s Club, city council members and municipal officials, the city’s First Lady lit City Hall in pink as a symbolic act.
Pivac de Munro noted, “Cancer is the leading cause of death among women over 25 in Mexico, robbing us of 14 lives daily, which is why we cannot close our eyes to this harsh reality.”
Lucia López Montijo, President of the San Peregrino Association, thanked the DIF President and her husband Mayor Kiko Munro for helping to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month for a second year in a row. She further extended an invitation to the community to join the Walk Against Cancer scheduled for Oct. 22nd, which will depart from the City Health Center and make its way to the Malecón.
