City Council taken over for Children’s Day

Outstanding sixth grade students from across Puerto Peñasco were recently sworn in as children’s city council in honor of Children’s Day (April 30).

In what is an annual tradition at City Hall, students touting the best grades at the 6th grade level were given public servant roles in honor of Children’s Day. Yadira Siboney Félix was given the role of 2015 Children’s Mayor, who made assurance she would indeed like to Mayor in the future in order to improve conditions at schools and make sure public lighting is available across the city.

“Yes, I would like to be Mayor. I like politics; my grandfather was on City Council and I want to be Mayor. In order to do so, one needs to study and have good grades,” remarked “Mayor” Yadira.

After members of the Children’s City Council were sworn in, the students visited the offices of each city official in order to see how City Hall works.

The young City Council then took part in a fiesta in their honor, replete with cake and candy.

Happy Children’s Day!
