A second wind generator is being installed in Puerto Peñasco that, once complete, aims to provide savings on electric bills to more than 10,000 families residing in Sonora’s 4th District further south, as well as to about 1500 families in Puerto Peñasco.
The generator, which is an ongoing part of former State representative Antonio Aztiazaran´s Energía Sonora program, is being built on a piece of land toward the Coastal highway. The company ST Vanguardia is undertaking the current project, which aims for completion within another 4 months.
Placement of the wind generators in Puerto Peñasco corresponds both to the need to create clean forms of energy, as well as the natural wind and sun conditions found here.
Energy generated from the project will be absorbed into the Federal Electric Commission (CFE), which in turn will provide corresponding discounts to families in need that are registered in the Energía Sonora program.
Puerto Peñasco mayor Kiko Munro remarked a request has been made to Energía Sonora so that the benefit not solely go toward 1500 families in Puerto Peñasco, but rather that an analysis be done as to the possibility of providing energy support for public lighting as well as electricity for local water wells.
