3rd Rocky Point Fly-In Nov. 4-6

This morning (Nov. 2) the director from the Sea of Cortez International Airport sat down with local news reporter José Antonio Pérez during his morning radio show on Peñasco’s most popular A.M. news source 1390 XEQC “La Reyna del Mar” (the Queen of the Sea).  I was glad I tuned in as I caught details on this weekend’s 3rd Rocky Point Fly-In. The event, which has extended an invitation to pilots from the US and Mexico to Fly-In to Rocky Point so people can admire the planes, will also include activities for the public such as parachuting opportunities and short flights in planes. Airport Director, Alonso Domínguez Ruiz, explained this is the 3rd time the Fly-In is being held, as the initial “3rd” time had to be cancelled last year.

Activities will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the bulk of the activities programmed for the weekend.  On Saturday, people are invited to visit the Sea of Cortez International Airport between 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. to see the planes or even sign up for a short flight, or parachute experience.  On Saturday evening, there will be a Hangar Party at Mayan Palace. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best pilot and/or flight attendant gear and there will be prizes (Seriously, that’s what the news bit on the radio stated)!  On Sunday, Nov. 6th, the events will be geared toward the entire family with bouncy castle set up for the kids, plus food!  On Sunday, the events are from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.  It is free to visit the Fly-In, though additional activities (parachuting, flights, food, etc.) will have their own costs.

Here is a run-down of the weekend’s events as found on the Sea of Cortez International Airport’s site:
