Get stoked and ready to shred across the malecón!  This Saturday marks the 3rd Annual Atomic Crew Skate Event (ATMC – Puerto Peñasco’s skate team), with proceeds going to the ongoing development of a skate park here in town.   The event, which will take over Governors’ Plaza on the malecón from Noon – 7 p.m., will wrap up with an after party at BooBar in the Old Port! There are 3 categories in all: intermediate, advanced, and super-advanced    All are welcomed for the fourth category, spectators – and your prize is an afternoon of fun!! Skate contest organizer Dean Wegner, from Uncle Skate, tells us there is a pool party scheduled for Friday night @ Viña del Mar hotel (plus discounts there if you mention ATMC). Other tidbits lined up include plans for a silent auction, music y más!

They are currently working with the City of Puerto Penasco on developing a world class skatepark. The design is a mix of a skate plaza and transitional half-pipe that is very popular with skaters today. The cost of the skatepark will be provided by Uncle Skate Charity through their various fundraising activities.

As Wegner explains,  “Uncle Skate has created its own philosophy and vision of what it would like to see in the future. A study shows that kids who participate in any type of sport are less likely to consume alcohol, get addicted to drugs, and even less likely to commit a criminal act. That being said, the more skateboards given out the better chance we have with the future of our global society.”

Uncle Skate is fortunate to donate free skateboards to the following Nations: Cuba, Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, United States, Jordan

Any one interested in donating to the skate park can do so at www.gofundme.com/rockypoint. Uncle Skate encourages donations of at least $7 which is for 1 square feet of skatepark! In addition you can show your support or learn more about Uncle Skate this coming Saturday at the BooBar.
