1st “Fish Bowl” Seafood Fest proves to be terrific success!

By José Antonio Pérez

Last Saturday’s Festival de Mariscos “Fish Bowl” Seafood Fest, put on by the local Rotary Club in conjunction with artisans of the Mermaid’s Market, successfully raised important funds for Rotary’s ongoing projects across town while drawing the attention and interest of many!

María Dolores “Loly” Monteverde Sesma, President of the CR Mar de Peñasco, A.C. Rotary Club, detailed numbers for the day pointed to over 500 attendees who were able to enjoy seafood samples from 15 area restaurants, as well as dishes prepared by the Dialysis Center, and culinary students from both CEUNO and UTPP, along with art.

Though final fundraising numbers were still being tallied, Loly expressed the event met its goal in providing a platform for many area restaurants, teaming up with the Mermaids Market to promote artists, and offering a variety of raffle packages from local and regional donors.  She noted funds raised from this Rotary event are to be put back into service projects that range from the club level to larger district and global grants.

The 2017-2018 Puerto Peñasco Rotary president highlighted this 1st Festival de Mariscos “Fish Bowl” surpassed expectations by over 50%, which in turn will translate into social service projects in and for the community of Puerto Peñasco. A small sign of such efforts could be seen at the entrance to Shrimp Park on Saturday afternoon when entering from Blvd. Fremont, where Monteverde Sesma had already put work into “patching” an area to ensure handicap access to the park – which had been completed just the night before the event!
